What to do if I find a dead dog?
As compared to cats & mice, dogs are not found dead that often. Probably the reason being that they are most dominant of the stray animals’ in general domestic areas. However, if you ever come across a tricky situation where a dead dog is lying right in front of you. It could be in the middle of the street a stray one, your pet who died in your backyard or one somewhere else, you have to know what to do about the situation.
Determine The Situation & Decide What Needs to be Done
Are you sure that the dog is completely dead and not breathing at all? If and only if you are sure about it being dead, you have to go ahead otherwise your option would be to call a veterinarian on spot and then the vet can check up & make sure of the situation
Call a Vet & Discuss What To Do
A vet will definitely be available if the incident occurred to you in normal business hours. However, few vets for the sake of helping out are also available over call in non-business hours and God Bless them. Call a Vet either way and tell them the situation and they will tell you how to handle the dead dog.
Execute The Burial On Your Own
The body starts decomposing the very next moment the blood stops running inside. Now you have to make quick decisions. For cremation, you need to contact 24/7 hotlines of animal cremators. To avoid attracting insects, you could keep a layer of safe cloth over the body unless a team arrives or you are successful in getting the body away from the place where it happened. Make sure to wear gloves, you wouldn’t want your hands to be carrying diseases. A plastic trash bag would come in to great help.
